RECAP Sat Jan 28th Surrey Ridge

Five die hard, hard core cyclists showed up to continue the year-round BV Saturday group ride ritual, rain or shine (or cold).  Among them were ride leader Jeffrey (had the day off but still dedicated enough to ride) and regulars Solomon and Paul.  They met with ride leader Justin and departed in 28-degree (!) overcast weather.  Originally planning on heading to Bear Lake, the group heeded the forecast warning of wind gusts to the west and decided to head south to Surrey Ridge.  A cold first half through the Tech Center was capped off with the climb at Surrey Ridge that warmed all riders up before breaking at the gas station in Lone Tree.  The sun came out and it warmed up to a balmy 40 degrees for the ride back.  55 year old and dedicated winter cyclist Eric proved very strong and led the group up the hills throughout the 38.5 mi route.  These guys earned a bonus ride today that will count towards this coming season while most others were sipping hot cocoa!

Sat Group Ride Jan 28th BEAR CREEK

Snow...NO snow...snow...NO snow...

Any more it's just a wait and see game!  IF the roads and weather remain as currently forecasted (high of 47) Justin will be layered up and ready to take you out to Bear Creek Lake.

This route pulls just under 40 miles but one can always turn around and head back on their own.  http://connect.garmin.com/activity/39597595

As mentioned, layer up - our riding temperature will only be 35, and that's not factoring in the wind chill!  Brrrr...I mean GET TOUGH!

Don't forget...NEW START TIME: meet by 9:30 depart at 10:00

**Should the weather force us to cancel the ride - BV will be happy to provide an indoor workout on their trainers.**

A Little Eye Candy...

What could be better in the New Year than a NEW BIKE!?!?!

A huge thank you to everyone that turned out to ride with Gene this Saturday.  With Gene still rehabbing his separated hamstring from back in July, Soloman graciously filled in as lead.  Troops bucked a headwind out to Meridian but were rewarded with a nice tail wind on the return to achieve a well earned 35 miles.

Saturday Group Ride Jan. 14th

Hello every one and Happy Friday the 13th!  Due to Wednesday's little white surprise we got we are not going to have a ride on Saturday.  We feel that the roads and bike paths will not be safe and clear of ice and snow right now.  The weather this coming week should allow us to continue with our rides next Saturday.  Stay tuned and let's hope that we will be out there on the 21st.  Have a great weekend every one and enjoy watching the Broncos.

RECAP: January 7th REI/Sloan's Lake

First ride of the year is under our belt.  Things started off pretty chilly as we started off on the Cherry Creek bike path headed towards REI.  I was accompanied by seven brave riders on this casual spin to REI and a loop around Sloan's lake.  The bike path was clear of snow/ice for the most part, there were only a few spots where the ice had not melted and we had to be a little extra cautious riding over the slippery substance.  Every one made it across safely, even Katie who had her share of crashes last year.

We actually stopped at REI first cause every one was a little cold and need some hot refreshment.  While we were enjoying our beverages the sun peeked out for a bit and started to thaw us out.  Out towards the west we could see the snow making its way towards us so we hopped back on our bikes so we could make it around the lake and back to the shop before the snow started to fly.  We made our way to Sloan's lake 2 riders short as Rachel and Katie decided to stay at REI and soak up the sun and atmosphere.  Our trip around the lake was pretty quick and we dodged the occasional jogger and or the numerous flocks of geese.  Solomon ended up making two loops as the rest of us headed back to REI and picked up the girls.

Our return trip was a little nicer as the temperature warmed up a bit and we had a tailwind which is always welcomed.  We had a break away of 3 riders who wanted to push the pace just a bit more.  The rest of us had a nice spin and chit chatted with one another on the way back to the shop.  Solomon ended up catching us on the way back from his little 2 lap adventure.  When all was said and done we logged an easy 30 miles and made it back to the shop before the snow fell.  We received a pretty good dusting and ride this weekend maybe in question as it may snow Wednesday and that snow may not melt by Saturday.  Stay tuned...

I'd like to thank those for making it out and I look forward to a great 2012 riding season!

Chris

Group Ride Jan. 7th 2012

Hello all and Happy New Year!!!

We will have our first ride of the New Year tomorrow.  It will be pretty low key and casual was we have not had a ride in over a month it seems like...  Chris will be leading and we can take a vote/poll as far as a route that people would like to do, it could be something as simple as doing a loop around Dartmouth to S. Platte and then up to REI and back to the shop.  Mileage will be 30-40 and at a casual pace as I said before since this will be our first ride of the year and some of you may not have been on your bike in a  while, and you may want to chit chat and catch up with friends that you haven't seen in the last few weeks.
Same routine as before, meet at the shop at 9 and we will then decide on a route and head out at 9:30.  It will be pretty cold when we leave the shop so I'd recommend tights, base layer and a warm jacket possibly (depending on how warm you are), followed by gloves, toe covers and a beanie.  As always bring some fluids maybe a small snack and a credit card or some $ to purchase a coffee (if we stop at REI) or other food you may want.

See you all tomorrow!
