Saturday Group Ride April 2nd: Intermediate-Aurora Res/Recreational-Sloan's Lake

Two great rides to offer you as the season kicks in and more riders begin to stretch their legs.  Chris will take his group out to Aurora Reservoir clocking around 46 miles.  Be prepared more some climbing and perhaps some (shhhh)...wind...challenge!
You'll find an easier and shorter ride (30 miles) with Jacquette as you head out on Cherry Creek bike path to Confluence park for a short break and then a couple more miles west for a great loop (or two) around the Sloan's Lake.  Our last few days of tumultuous winds should lend itself for some clear views of the mountains from here.

Hope to see you at the Aurora store around 9am...hydration and spare tube set to go!

RECAP: March 26th

 INTERMEDIATE:

We had a really nice day to ride on Saturday, the sun was out, winds were calm and the air was crisp.  This week we broke into 2 groups again, an Intermediate and Rec.  Jeffery took the Rec. group out for a nice leisurely ride while I took the Intermediates out for a little faster paced ride.  We had some old faces show up which was nice to see, glad every one is getting back out on the bike!

Our rides started off with the usual congestion at the traffic light at Havana & Dartmouth due to the construction that is going on.  It will be nice when they finally get it completed so we can avoid waiting for the light and the mass chaos of our group ride trying to all fit on the traffic island.  Our route today lead us through the CC park down Jordan where we crossed Arapaho and made our way onto Potomac and then onto Chambers.  We hit up the local Loaf-n-Jug for our first quick stop as there was no good place to stop at the half way mark of our ride.  We continued down the C470 trail and headed south on the CC trail, where we normally turn rt. over the bridge to go to the Pinery we kept going straight on the bike path till it ended in a subdivision.  From there we went up a nice little climb and then enjoyed a nice descent down the other side.
After that little loop we hoped back on the bike path and back tracked our route out.  We made one more quick stop at the Loaf-n-Jug and then cruised down Jordan went back through the park and took a little short cut up Havana to avoid crossing at the detour spot at Havana & Dartmouth and we were back at the shop.

I'd like to thank every one for coming out and for a great ride.  Hopefully the weather will continue to get nicer out as summer creeps closer & closer.

Ps. I fixed the link to last weeks pics if you want to check them out.

RECREATIONAL: Bronco's Parkway

Saturday March 26 was clear, pretty and “brisk.”  It was about 30 degrees when Jeffrey and five recreational riders rolled out of the shop.  For several this was their first "real" ride of the year.  We rode from BV through Cherry Creek State Park and out on Bronco’s Parkway to the soccer fields.  Along the way we worked on reclaiming skills from last year and arrived feeling strong.

Michelle, a loyal BV customer, reported that she loves her pretty new celeste
Bianchi bought over the winter and feels much faster and
more enjoyable than her 28 year old Raleigh she had been riding!
Good for you for committing to your passion and treating
yourself to the latest in technology.
With a new level of riding now opened up to you,
new and higher goals are there for your taking!

After snacking at the soccer fields all felt so strong that we threw in another loop, riding out to 470 and then taking the Cherry Creek Trail back.  We arrived back at  Bicycle Village just as the temperatures got up to comfortable.   We had done just a bit over 30 miles and showing an average speed of about 14.5.   Not bad for the end of March!

Recap March 19th

Saturdays ride turned out great! Jeff took his group to Sloan's Lake and I took my group of hammer heads and riders training for the Tour De France out to Golden.  When we got to the gas station part of our group decided to ride up Look Out Mountain, I'm assuming they all made it back ok. All in all aside from a little wind we had a terrific day.   The six riders in the picture did the ride up look out.

Recap March 12th: Pinery Parkway

Three words...Spring head wind...but that didn't stop us!  We had an exceptionally good turnout today with over 20 riders.  (Maybe the superb weather got us all that itch to ride.) With Gene and Heidi stepping in to help maintain order and sweep the pack(s) we were off.

Chris decided to take us out to the Pinery Parkway off the southern most Cherry Creek path which, if you've never been on it, is quite a great bike path...a little secret many of us now know of.  Although it was windy going out and coming back, the gang persevered and got twice the workout.

Ride leader Heidi joined the group today for her very first ride on her new Trek Madone 6.7.  She started out as a hot mess with a derailleur issue and a flat immediately following but after a few repairs and adjustments, her new ride was smooth, faster than on her old bike which we won't bothering mentioning and she is all smiles.  Heidi would like to thank Jeff, Gene and Jacquette for their assistance with the mechanical issues early on the ride.

This being the season's first (large) group ride, our leadership skills were put to a test and...we failed. :(  In our efforts to keep it as one solid group instead of two, and with a few delaying mechanical issues, we lost a few riders along the way and others felt disconnected and unsure of the route.  We regret any pleasantry you may have experienced on this venture and assure you we will address our faults and recommit our dedication to you for a safe, solid, "group" ride next time.

Group Ride March 12th

Welcome ole "grandiose" weather!  Do we love livin' and ridin' in Colorado....or what?!?!

Jacquette will be be joining Chris on this Saturday's group ride and based on the forecast we are hoping to see quite a few of you along as well.  I'm thinking Aurora Res might be in the cards...only cause "J" has not been on the ride yet and has heard it's a doozie!  Either case wherever the wheels take us we're sure to have a good time!

RECAP March 5th Bear Creek

Well it never seems to fail that our rides out to Bear Creek are always interesting, and this one was no different...
Things started out with the chaos of Deals on Wheels in the background which is always exciting.  The weather was overcast and a tad on the chilly side, and once we decided on a route we were off to the wild blue yonder.  Things got interesting very early on when Donna got a flat while riding down Yale.  Once I found out what had happened I turned around and when I road up Jeff had Donna's wheel off starting to change it while Dan was hanging around for moral support. :) It ended up being a little cool than I was expecting so I decided to head back to the shop and get my gloves and beanie since we weren't too far away yet cause I knew I would be miserable the whole ride if I didn't have them.  I high tailed it back to the shop and picked up my gloves and beanie and did a TT trying to catch the group.  The group went ahead and kept riding to Bear Creek as I was in hot pursuit trying to catch up.

I told the group we would ride it backwards so we would climb on Morrison Rd. instead of descend it like we usually do.  Unfortunately know one knew the route so they went the usual way while I did the loop in reverse.  I arrived at the gas station and asked the attendant if there had been a group of cyclists there and he said "no."  I figured I'd just hang out there till the group showed up.  A couple of minutes later I got a call from Salomon wondering where I was so I told him I was at the gas station and that they would meet me there.  A few more minutes went by before the group started to trickle in.  After every one got refueled and shared a few stories we headed back down Morrison Rd.
Everything was going great till we were riding down Dartmouth and Jeff ended up getting his own flat.  I was unaware of this because myself and a bunch of other riders were at the park waiting to regroup with every one.  Donna rolls up and lets me know of Jeff's flat so I start heading back to help him out.  Come to find out Jeff had tried to fix his flat but what ever caused the flat was still in the tire because when he inflated the new tube that blew too so he was out of tubes and CO2.  By the time I arrived some guy (Scott Noble) on a cross country bike had helped Jeff patch his tube.  This time it held and he told us his name and he replied Scott Noble and I thought that was fitting that he just did a noble act by helping Jeff.  Jeff and I remounted our bikes and hit the road to meet the rest of the group.  After that we had smooth sailing the rest of the way back to the shop.  Once again Bear Creek keeps giving us interesting rides and some fun stories to tell.  I'd like to thank every one for joining me on another great ride.  Ben & Brian (on his new bike) you guys are riding really strong, keep it up!  I hope to see you all again this Saturday, the weather looks like it should be much nicer.  :)

Group Ride March 5th

Red Rover...Red Rover...Come on Over!

YES there is a large tent in the BV parking lot,
YES, it will be madness and
YES parking will be limited...BUT
...the weather should be perfect (haven't these last few days been awesome?)
...and the deals will be galore!
...and your favorite ride partners will be there. ;)

So pack it up in usual style and be sure to give yourself extra time for parking (and shopping).  We suggest heading straight behind the store in the "H Mart" parking lot...away from it all.

Be sure and sign your name to the rider list, fill out a waiver for 2011, and chat it up with vendor reps (Pearl Izumi, Yakima, and more), shop a bit and have a fabulous and safe ride.

RECAP Februray 26th

A rather windy day for the folks as they headed out to Chatfield Res but the fight was worth it as the direction stayed and a lovely tailwind helped zip them back to the store.  That's a rarity but we soak it in when it does happen!

Yes, there was a bit of a mishap as IC3 rider, Kevin, went down.  Word is he'll be seeing an orthopedic doctor and has yet to determine if there is a fracture or chip in right elbow...let's hope "not".  Our very best to you Kevin for a speedy recovery.

Apart from Kevin's misfortune the group enjoyed the 43 miler and were happy once again to not have gotten stuck indoors!  Based on the temps over the last few days we may be welcoming great Spring riding times sooner than normal.  Always glad to have you riding with us...thanks...and we mean it!
