Saturday Group Ride Februray 26th

Can you believe it's the last Saturday of the month!?!?  Where has February gone? and what have you been doing all month?  If you answered "nothing" then you best take a good look-see over that bike, pump up the tires and meet us at BV at 9am for a group ride.

Chris and Tom will be your guides, taking you to and around the unknown.  Chances are you'll pull around 35 miles at a strong enough pace to get your heart muscle working too.  With temps between 40s and 50s you are going to want some layers and don't let the cool weather fool you...you need to hydrate...so bring the fluids!   See you then...

RECAP February 19th: Aurora Res

There was no shortage of sunshine on this Saturday morning as a healthy pack of 18 riders gathered at the BV parking lot.  It was a crisp morning with temps in the high thirties setting off, but the riders knew that it would soon turn out to be an unseasonably warm February group ride.

Chris led the group out towards Cherry Creek State Park, with a plan of going out to the Aurora Reservoir and back, with Justin sweeping the group on the 44-mile journey.  As soon as the group set off to climb across the Cherry Creek Reservoir, things warmed up and the weather was perfect!  Out of the park, the peleton headed east on Orchard, gaining speed.  One rider experienced a flat on tubulars (guy with the Ti bike, don't know his name) and another rider that lived close by offered to call his wife for a rescue ride home-great teamwork!  The group pressed on, eventually reaching the scenic 8-mile loop around the Aurora Res.
During the loop, first-time rider Steve said that he is 66 years old, started riding last year, and that it was his first time ever riding with a group!  He was loving it.  (Kudos to you Steve!) After a short break for hydration at the usual Walgreens, the pack fought substantial headwinds (ugh!) on the way back, providing a tougher workout and added fitness benefit.  Another great ride!  Thanks to all (regulars and new) for joining us and making this a great February ride to remember!

Saturday Group Ride February 19th

What an awesome week of sunshine we have had!  Enough to really melt and dry out those side streets and bike paths which should aid Chris and Justin in designing a terrific ride for you this Saturday.  The forecast (55) looks like a great day to get out and enjoy before cooler temps and moisture comes back around.  Double up on fluids, lighten the layers, and grab the sunscreen...it's going to be a beaut!

RECAP Februray 12th: Meridian to Crowfoot

Wow, what a fantastic day! We had 9 riders ready to roll on some wet pavement on Saturday.  The weather was spectacular with mostly sunny skies and high in the low 50's.  Spirits were high with the anticipation of being able to ride outside and the prospect of great weather.  The only dilemma we had was trying to figure out a suitable route that wouldn't be snow/ice covered and not too wet.
We started rolling and instead of taking our usual route to the cherry creek bike path we decided on a short cut to avoid a usual trouble area that doesn't get much sun.  We ended up having to traverse 2 areas that were snow & ice covered but it wasn't too bad and we had smooth sailing after that.  We continued along the dam and instead of going into the park we took Dayton on our way to the Meridian.  After we rode around the Meridian twice we took a different route to Jordan Rd. via Compark Blvd. which Kurt lead us on for awhile. We proceeded to ride down Jordan till it T-boned into Hess where 4 riders decided to turn back because they didn't have the legs to continue on.  The remaining 6 of us, Ben, Brian, Shawn, Tom, Salomon & I headed out to Crowfoot with the firehouse as our destination.
Half way there Brian ended up turning around due to time constraints he had.  Salomon set a great pace with me on his wheel and Shawn, Ben & Tom trailing behind us.  The ride there was a little longer than what we had remembered from last summer but once we arrived at the firehouse we where blessed with beaming sunshine and calm winds.  Our black clothing was absorbing every last bit of the suns rays and it almost got too hot at one point.  After a little break we started making our way back home which started off with a nice descent down Crowfoot.  We followed the same route we took out there to get back making a stop at the local gas station  where Salomon was nice enough to buy us all a banana for a little potassium for the ride home.  Our ride back  turned out to be a lot of fun, we had a good time trying to splash each other or getting roosted by some ones back tire and calling out "puddle" or "stream" instead of the usual road hazards.  The remaining 5 of us made it back with 55 miles in our tired/sore legs and some color on our skin.  Thanks guys for the great ride and kudos to Shawn & Ben who road really strong today.  Keep it up guys!!!  See you next Saturday... :)

Saturday Group Ride February 12th

February sure has blown in some cold, humid days for us thus far.  Kudos to those who stayed devoted to their riding/training by taking it indoors last Saturday!  We'll have to wait and see how much of our roads are melted and deemed "safe" before making a call to ride in or out again this weekend.

Best to be prepared for either.  Don't forget...you still get recognized on your punch card if you stay for indoor spinning...be sure and give Chris your first and last name.

Many of you may be celebrating Valentine's Day this weekend so come on over and knock down some calories first!   See you there...

Many thanks to everyone who supported Bicycle Village in donations and support to the Bikes for Tykes program.  Collectively through all BV stores and matched funds we were able to proudly present a  check of  $10,000 to Bruce Lien!  We admire and look forward to Bruce's continued success as he gives and gives to those in need.

RECAP: Feb 5th Group Spin

Well I think for the first time this year we we stayed indoors for once and spun on the trainers.  We could've ridden outside but finding a route that wasn't wet, icy or snow covered would've been a little difficult.  We decided to play it safe and had a good time inside.

We had a small group of 6 die hard riders who showed up and spun with Gene and I.  We had a great atmosphere for spinning with a DVD of the 2004 Tour De France on the big screen so we rode with Lance as he dominated the rest of the field.  It was nice spinning because it is a little more conducive to conversation than actually being on a ride outside.  We all took turns cracking jokes with every one and got to know each other on a little more personal level.

Next Saturday's weather forecast looks really nice at the moment with sunny skies and a high of 55.  Lets just hope the snow melts off during the week so it will be nice and dry for us come Saturday.

Thanks to those who came out and spun, you will now have the jump on every one else with your punch cards and one ride closer to your first prize!  PLEASE email, call or comment below, your first and LAST name if you attended this Indoor class as we do not have full names memorized and want to be sure and give you a "punch" credit.
Hope too see all you guys back  next week.

Group Ride: February 5th - Indoor Cycling

...blast!  Looks the weather may finally push us indoors this Saturday.

HOWEVER, there is a slight chance that you will ride outdoors: Chris says the roads around Meridian and other areas are clear and dry so be prepared for either scenario.

Indoor Cycling will be held in the store on the mezzanine.  Pack the water bottles bring some indoor riding gear and experience a "Spinerval" workout with Chris.  Come early (9:00) and stake out your favorite spot!  (PS: no charge for this accommodation.)

You just may love this workout and want to join us at 6pm on Tuesday or Thursday evenings...($6/class)...ask Chris for a FREE class card!
