Ride leaders Heidi and Tom joined forces for a 2nd week in a row and lead the rec ride today out to Broncos Parkway (soccer fields). Here is where we split and Tom took 9 riders back to ride the published route while Heidi took the remaining half, (determined that extra miles were much needed) out past Lincoln and returned on Peoria just east of Skyridge Medical Center. The group that road the longer distance covered 39 miles at an average pace of 16 mph. Damon unfortunately broke a spoke on the return and had to take an easy stroll back but has a replacement wheel at home. Great job everyone adding those additional 15 or so miles and keeping a strong pace. The weather today was a welcoming coolness, hovering in the upper sixties. Fall has arrived. See you all again soon! Enjoy your long holiday weekend.
INTERMEDIATE:
Comments via ride Leader(s):Patrice & Jeffrey
What a great ride today! It was our first crisp morning, with several of our intermediate riders showing up in arm warmers or jackets including four or five newbies. Eighteen people set off with Patrice and Jeffrey for a longer that usual ride. The pace was strong and quickly, perhaps in celebration of the delightful temps. British David took several more pics as my camera was acting up. Hopefully he will send it to BV email.
Patrice had a wonderful chat w/ Karen who made a huge impression on her...after 30 yrs of smoking, Karen quit last year and it has changed her life around for the better! Her message is "balance" which is something we all need to look at and strive to achieve!
David (as in British David, Hail to the Queen!) was wonderful as he helped Patrice herd the cats at the back of the pack! Thx David! All together we put in sixty miles, riding south down Jordan to the E470, down the E470 trail to the top of the dam at Chatfield Reservoir, then north along the Platte River trail to REI, and up the Cherry Creek Trail to Bicycle Village. There were lots of people out enjoying the holiday weekend on the trail. Perhaps it was the pace or the distance, but we had three people who had trouble with leg cramps in the last ten miles or so. Luckily one of them was Conner, a massage therapist making his first ride of the season, who explained what was happening with the muscles and how to respond. Much more helpful than Jeffrey, who kept muttering “ electrolytes, drink something with electrolytes.”
