GROUP RIDE October 30th: Intermediate-Aurora Res Recreational-Sloan's Lake

INTERMEDIATE: Aurora Reservoir
Okay, okay we've done this a zillion times but hey...it's a great ride, the weather is supposed to be awesome, your riding buddies will be there, so let's get out and enjoy it!  Stretch and loosen up those legs and get ready for some more climbing, should be around 47 miles.  Here's the Garmin link: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/51186627
RECREATIONAL:

RECAP October 23rd: Chatfield/Titan Loop - Confluence via Dartmouth

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED:
Despite a cool and cloudy morning with plenty of colored leaves falling off of the trees, 10 hardcore riders gathered in the BV parking lot for the Intermediate/Advanced ride. Guided by pro ride leader Chris and chased by novice Justin, the group embarked to take on a new route. All were sporting their newest and best looking fall cycling apparel in an attempt to look cool and stay warm. They headed along the Cherry Creek Res and through DTC to pick up Happy Canyon Rd. on the way to Dartmouth. It only took that little bit of climbing near the Res to get the juices flowing and the legs plenty warm. All were feeling good as the group took Dartmouth west to the Platte River Trail. Taking the Platte south to Chatfield Res, the group conquered the climb to the top and then did a long loop around the park. Heading out of Chatfield and south on Titan Rd, the pack battled gusty winds and rolling hills, (dang!) eventually taking shelter for a gas station pit stop.  Regular rider Steve came back strong after the break on the trek back north alongside the mountains to once again summit the Chatfield Res.  A few members of the group began cramping up on the rolling hills route home, and others were glad to stop and help stretch them out. The long mileage late in the season proved to be a challenge, but all 10 were victorious!  59 miles total over 3 hours and 20 of ride time on a new route provided a great ride for all!

RECREATIONAL:
Ride leader Jeffrey, and eight hearty souls set out on the recreational ride, including one newcomer and Solomon, still recovering from his broken collar bone...and feeling every bump along the way.   Temps were in the forties and we dawned knickers and jackets as we set off.  Quickly warming up on the trail by the time we hit the Platte layers started coming off.   We were well matched and moved along nicely with minimal stops until we got to REI where we ran into hundreds of charity walkers. We picked our way through the crowd and then sped back up the Cherry Creek trail.  Thanks to all that braved the cooler temp hopefully you are glad to have done so, and enjoyed a great fall day of riding, colors and weather combined.

GROUP RIDE October 23: INTERMEDIATE - Chatfield via Dartmouth RECREATIONAL - Confluence

Let's hope the moisture comes on Friday and Saturday stays cool but dry!  With a high of 60 predicted it should be a great day to add a base layer and get outdoors to breath some fresh air.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED:
New route!  Riding out to Chatfield again, only this time coming off the Platte bike path we'll enter the park taking Perimeter Road around till we exit at the east entrance (N Roxborough Road) heading southbound.  Then we'll head west on Titan Road which turns into N Rampart Range heading south again till we catch W Waterton Canyon Road  and eventually the S Platte Canyon Road (Wadsworth), catching back up to the bike trail and heading back to BV.  Rampart offers some nice rollers to challenge you, but be sure and save some energy for the ride back, estimating a total around 55/60 miles. Weather depending this could be one of the last "big" rides for a spell...
RECREATIONAL:
A visit to Confluence park via Dartmouth.  Your ride leader will take you down Dartmouth via Happy Canyon till you catch the Platte bike path heading northbound.  Enjoy the scenery and fall colors along the way with a break at Confluence Park before heading back to the store.

RECAP: GROUP RIDE Saturday October 16th

We were blessed with more spectacular fall weather for theses rides on Saturday.  Sunny skies and temps in the high 60's make for some great riding this time of year.  We aren't looking forward to the winter and the cool rides that come with the territory.  Salomon was back with us this week after he fractured his collar bone 3 weeks ago. We are glad you are feeling better and came out with us Salomon!

Thanks to all of you who joined us Saturday for these great rides:
INTERMEDIATE:
The Intermediate group had another awesome ride out to the Pinery.  Gene and I were accompanied by a group of thirteen riders this weekend ready to tackle the climbs, flats and wind.  Our journey started by heading out through the CC Res and out to C 470 via Chambers.  After a quick first pit stop we hopped back on the CC trail and headed east.  We had a relatively uneventful trip out except for a few riders taking a little detour by accident.  Once we regrouped we made our way out to the Pinery all together.  Arriving at the Pinery climb it was game on with Tom leading the charge up the hill by setting a really high tempo followed by Kurt and then myself.  We ended up stringing out as every one climbed at their own pace.  Following a tricky climb that is a little deceiving because just as you think you are at the summit it has one more little climb and seems to continue on and on.  Once at the summit we were rewarded with a set of fun rollers and then a nice long decent back to Parker Rd were we regrouped once again and before heading back home.  The ride back was pretty quick although we were fighting a head wind all the way back.  We stopped one more time at a gas station off of Jordan and then it was a B line back to the CC Res.  There were some nice pace lines that formed while riding down Jordan which made for a nice over all high average speed.  Ruan ended up getting a flat just before we reached Arapahoe which "Hot Dog" Shawn changed with out fail!  Shawn I wish I had you by my side on every ride...  We were back on the road in no time and riding through the CC Res. were we practiced some more pace lines.  Regrouping one final time for the push back to the shop just outside of the CC Res a few of us keyed up for the last little tactical climb of the day.  Kurt had a pretty good lead and I thought he had me but I couldn't let that happen, sorry Kurt.  :)  Tom put a little pressure on at the top of the golf course but I had to shut that down as well.  I'd like to thank every one for coming out and I hope you guys had a great time!

Group Ride Saturday October 16: Pinery Parkway - Meridian Loop

Should be yet another gorgeous fall day in Colorado and an opportunity to ride with friends.  Bicycle Village brings you these two well known rides to pick from.  Pack a spare tube or two as those nasty thorns are still on the rise, grab some layers and let's roll...
Ride leader Gene, will accompany the larger of the two groups here:

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED:
Join Chris  on this ole' favorite out to Pinery Parkway and back.  This challenging ride is designed for individuals who ride their bikes every day, participate in century rides, bike tours, or even race throughout the summer.  Chris will take you straight south towards the town of Parker and pull you up multiple steady climbs as you wind through neighborhoods.  Total distance will be 55+ miles with a pit stops at E470 & Jordan Rd gas station on our way out and the return home covering around 3 1/2 hours.
RECREATIONAL:
Justin (is back)...and anxious to lead you out to Meridian business park and back.  A great little ride with just the right amount of climbing as you head south past the DTC area and C-470 towards Lincoln to gain access to the loop around Meridian.  This park is a rolling terrain surrounding a golf course intermixed with businesses providing you with both scenery and a challenge.  It's never certain how many loops Justin will encourage from you...so be prepared! (:

RECAP: October 9th

WOW!  Not only a beautiful fall day of riding...but a phenomenal turn out for the Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser.  A huge thank you to each and every donation received from each of you!!!  A true fall day as the sounds of a breeze threaded among the trees and crisp leaves were crumbled underneath our tires.
INTERMEDIATE:
Once again our ride to Crow Foot Valley showed how windy it can get on this open rode.  Chris and Gene had a very manageable group with 10 riders and except for one flat tire  on Chris's bike the ride was incident free.  On the way out we had a rocking tail wind (a cyclist's dream), yet not so lucky on the way back as head and cross winds made the 53 miler seem more like 75!  In the end we got a better workout for it and remains one of our favorite training rides.

RECREATIONAL/SOCIAL:
"Pink" was abundant today as we declared our support to the continued fight against breast cancer.  Arm and knee warmers were handy against the slight breeze out to Confluence Park and back.  Four rider leaders accompanied the group of mixed BCRF and regular riders.  We left in waves from the parking lot (one flat just as we departed) and although we split up off and on at varying intersections and detours we all gathered together at Confluence Park for a nice break before heading back to the store.  Tom led about 10 folks on a more leisure ride to the Farmer's Market before heading back.  A few of us encountered a flat but many hands were available for quick fixes.

Several of you stayed after the ride to enjoy a light reception and an array of great prizes.  Once again, we sincerely appreciate your donation to BCRF and look forward to seeing you on a future BV ride.
Check for pics later this week...

RECAP: October 2nd

Summer is gradually slipping away as fall creeps in...For many riders this time of year often the "preferred" time to ride...temps start out a bit on the chilly side, but warm up quickly and are easily adjusted with light layers.   Today lived up to that theory as the weather was just perfect for a great ride such as these.

Many thanks to those of you who showed up today and ride with us.  Our two great groups of riders:
INTERMEDIATE:
The Intermediate ride was really awesome, we had a great bunch of riders ready to climb Look Out which is a rarely attempted feat.  We left a little late because I forgot my helmet (sorry guys :) but had great weather which included clear sunny blue skies, zero wind and perfect temperature for fall riding.  Our ride started with a obstacle course known as the Cherry Creek trail.  Once clearing that, we headed out on 23rd and then on to 26th Ave.  We had some great pace lines while heading west to Golden which made for a speedy trip.  On our ride out we ran into Malia who was out on her own rehab ride.  Slowed only by 2 flats today we arrived in Golden in no time, and refueled at our usual local gas station.  Once we had some liquids and food we made our way to Look Out.  Every one had a great climb and road at their own pace and once at the top we regrouped and took a few pics and recapped our climb.  Our ride back down was hampered by some cars that we were unable to pass so our rims were pretty hot from all the breaking.  Shawn can attest to this who had a massive blow out once we stopped to regroup at the bottom of the mt.  He was very lucky it didn't blow on the way down as that would've been disastrous.  It was such a massive blow it blew the tire from the sidewall of the rim and the tube had about a 12 inch split in it.  Once regrouped we headed back east and we ended up breaking into two different groups and then regrouped again at REI.  After a final break at REI we made our way back down the Cherry Creek trail for the last 10 miles.  We had some tired, sore and relaxed bodies after the ride and I would like to thank those of you who showed up for this great ride.  See you all next weekend!

RECREATIONAL:
8 participants enjoyed their ride out to Centennial with new ride leader Gene, assisted by "volunteer" sweeper Tom (thanks!).  After the usual stop at the Conaco station
Gene changed it up a bit by choosing to continue the ride via
Chambers as opposed to Potomac, and toured around the
Bronco practice field.  Must have put some good mojo on them as they won against the Titans...26/20!

On their way back  everyone agreed to ride a loop inside the reservoir for an additional 5 miles.  A good time and a good work out for the entire group.
