RECAP: September 25th

What a tremendous day for a ride!  With the coolness of fall in the air, arm warmers were indeed the fashion of the day.  Many thanks to the 40 riders who should up Saturday to keep the pedals cranking.   Regular rider Bob had planned on riding around Cherry Creek Reservoir with the Social group but soon discovered being the only rider it would have been a private tour...so he opted instead to join the Recreational group to Sloan's Lake.  (Thanks Bob!)   Let's see what other highlights took place...
INTERMEDIATE:
This strong group of 20 accompanied by Chris and Tom enjoyed another great ride out to Aurora Reservoir...well at least for most of the way.  Aside from numerous flats (6...7?) half way through one rider Solomon took a nasty fall that resulted in a broken collar bone.  Rumor has it possible texting while riding was the culprit.
The group respectfully waited till the ambulance arrived as well as a friend to pick up his bike.  We wish a very speedy recovery to him and hope he is able to return to his passion of cycling soon.  Anytime we are riding, whether alone or with a group, we are vulnerable to numerous possibilities that can lead to unforeseen accidents.  When we choose to defy that vulnerability we increase our odds and  quite often we lose.  Let's all learn from this and practice safe, conscious riding.

RECREATIONAL:
A spectacular turnout of 18 riders led by Jacquette and graciously swept by Gene.  A familiar route to most we headed west on the Cherry Creek bike path to Confluence Park for an official break where several opted for a boost of caffeine.  No sooner did we leave for Sloan's Lake, BJ's rear tire blew.  He and a few supporters changed the flat and then caught up with us for their usual sprint around the lake.  It was great to see Laura, another ride regular, as she joined us at Sloan's Lake for a lap and rode part of the way  back with us.  Unfortunately a continued slow leak forced BJ to head for the nearest bike shop for further adjustments.  Everyone enjoyed the ride and destination.  Such a great time of year with amazing temperatures and color changing of the leaves.  A small falcon darting from tree to tree had several crows in an upheaval as they warned others to be aware.  Acknowledgment to us that we were not the only ones utilizing the beauty of the park and Colorado's outdoors.
