Okay! This week we are doing our shop's "lunch ride" around the reservoir. Anyone with a recently purchase road bike - get in on this one! The route is 80% bike path and side-streets with little to no traffic. Scenery is great: views of the Cherry Creek res, a full scope of the mountains for a backdrop, we skirt a golf course, and a few miles through some fields. We also welcome any city bike or hybrid bike for this ride. It will be under 15 miles with a few small climbs. The group speed will stay near 12-16 mph. This is a "no-drop" ride with two ride leaders: one out front making the turns and the other chattin' with the few in the rear.
(depending on group ride turnout - we may add a larger loop that runs out by the Centennial Airport & Bronos Pkwy at an intermediate pace: 16-20 mph w/ trip distance end closer to 25 miles)
We welcome ALL cyclists from all levels of experience. Whether you just bought your first hybrid bike and feel unsure how to shift correctly, upgraded into a road bike but don't know if you can keep up, or you're looking for a fast group to push your pace into new levels and distances, we'll accommodate any style and fitness level. The one thing we all have in common is that we enjoy pedaling our bikes with the sun on our face and with friends to share it with.
Denver Tech / S.Platte / C.Creek Trail RECAP - July 25th
Thanks to everyone who made it out today! We had a great group - hitting over the twenty rider mark. All riders made the 32-mile loop from the Tech Center out Dartmouth to the S.Platte and back on Cherry Creek. It's always a fun warm-up to start right into those hills on the way up to the Cherry Creek reservoir. Clears the lungs out...

(Ritz leading the way with a beautiful big smile - she must invincible to hills.)

After our re-fueling, we hopped on the Cherry Creek path and zoomed back to the store. Only stop was to help a fellow biker with a flat. But, to no avail as he was a city commuter with 15 mil bolts holding on his wheel - not the typical quick release. No wrenchs in my jersey pocket!
We had three sub-groups with a few stops to collect back up. Well...I guess I could say several stops since we were jinxed with every red stop-light heading up Dartmouth!

The "hot" group had antz in their pants by the time we hit the South Platte trail. We turned it loose and barrelled down the path in a speeding pak. Special kudos to Tristen, our 13 year-old up & coming pro, who hung with the men with no problem at 18-20 mph.

(Chris gave us comfort - knowing he was bring up the rear and keeping anyone from falling off the back.)
(a couple guys from our hot rod sub-group: thanks Ruan for some of those pulls!)
Our last stop was REI. We took a moment to hit the restrooms, scarf down a bar, and fill the bottles before heading on our way.

So I'm thinking that everyone sorta liked the Saturday Morning route last week . . . so let's reverse the route and do it again this coming Saturday - - July 25th. We'll hit the road from BV Aurora @ 9:30am and head toward the hlls of the Tech Center - - then west on Monaco - - then along the backside of the golf course & meander along the Platte River toward REI. I's like to avoid the Cherry Creek Trail on the way back east . . . so we'll figure a way back, perhaps along the 7th Avenue Parkway. This is gonna be about 34 miles / and "no drop" so everyone who leaves comes back alive!
This has nothing to do with the Saturday Group Ride . .but I'm gonna post it anyway! This is Lance's way-cool, Le T de F, time trial bike! One hot lookin' ride!
Big Fun with 14 Riders / BV Group Ride - July 18 !

So the Bicycle Village Saturday Morning Group Ride contnues to grow - we had 14 riders on Saturday July 18 with clear blue skies, temps in the 70's - a perfect day for a Colorado bike ride. The route took us west from Aurora toward REI and Confluence Park . . . then south along the
Platt River to the Monaco Street cut-off . . . and on toward the Tech Center. We aimed for the Cherry Creek Res from the Tech Center and rode the great downhill along the back of the dam.
Great group - no bike issues and a great time was had by all!
Our next ride is scheduled for Saturday, July 25 and we'll gather up at the BV Aurora Store at
9:15 and get on the road by 9:30. We'll shoot for about 35 miles and try to ride at an intermediate pace of about 15/16 miles per hour. Check this blog . . . or the BV Aurora Facebook page for additional info about the group ride on July 25. Hope to see you there!

July 11th - Saturday Group Ride Recap
We had a large group this morning. Cobra, a team riding for Tour de Cure, joined us for a couple loops around the Cherry Creek Reseviour. While some of us muscled the hills leading to the park, Cobra and a few other group ride cyclists lapped us for an extra challenge. They were pushing themselves as it was a training ride for their August event. The rest of us enjoyed the beautiful morning pedaling the 15 miles together and saying "hi" to the triathlon finishers who were racing at the res. Special thanks to one finisher - as she offered her floor pump to us while fixing a flat. Saved me $3 on a CO2 cartridge!!
